Center For Chimpanzee Care Update
When the space chimps first arrived at the Fort Pierce Sanctuary, they were malnourished, skinny, and missing a lot of fur. Since they have been receiving a steady diet of fruits, veggies, and their daily GREENS+® smoothies, they have gained weight, gotten a Florida tan and regrown their fur. Irene, one of the care workers at the center said, “At first we had to put handicap bars on the windows and near the sleeping platforms so the chimps could hold on to them to climb. Now, they can pop in and out of windows without ever touching the bars. As for the psychological effects of their smoothies, they are the highlight of their day. As soon as we walk in with the bin full of GREENS+® smoothies, the hooting starts They don’t quiet down until they each have a share.”
One night Dana, the oldest female, decided she was entitled to Garfield’s smoothie. She walked over to Garfield, who had his cup in his mouth and took the cup from his mouth. As if this wasn’t enough, she OPENED his mouth and scooped out any remaining smoothie he was trying to swallow. It’s bad enough he was robbed of his smoothie, but Dana also took some of his machismo with her!
